ATAC supports the 100 Series Rules for the Use of Force (RUF)
The purpose is to provide the Vessel Master, crew, PMSC, PCASP ship owner, with the lawful Use of Force (RUF) graduated response. Additionally, reducing the risk of the Vessel Master, Crew, PMSC, ship owner, insurer and under writers of civil liability claims, potential criminal and/or other charges.
The first international model of the Rules for the Use of Force (RUF) designed to benefit the entire maritime industry. In conjunction with applicable national and industry RUF guidance once a ship owner has decided to employ a PMSC to protect a ship and its crew from acts of piracy, armed robbery or hijacking.
“ATAC decided to support these rules, believing that the past guidance was not sufficient. The Series 100 RUF clearly recognized and identified the need for the security operatives (PMSC), Vessel Master, Crew and the entire maritime industry.”
However, these rules do not imply that there is a mindless right when the Vessel Master, crew and PMSC are confronted with a suspicious act or skiff. Nor are the 100 Series Rules for the Use of Force (RUF) cover detailed PMSC Standard Operating Procedures.
